Zambia

Twenty people from Providence Church, along with two others from our sister church, Covenant Fellowship, traveled to Ndola, a small town in the African country of Zambia, to serve impoverished children of the region. Due to the disastrous effects of HIV/AIDS, many are left orphaned and without basic education or clothing.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction…
James 1:27
The team’s mission included beginning construction on a new schoolhouse for Lighthouse Christian School, a school that reaches out to the poorest children of Ndola. The team also delivered needed school supplies and clothing, and serve alongside the teachers of Lighthouse Christian School to educate and to share the Gospel with these young children from Ndola.
Hundreds of people came together to make this happen. The members of Providence Church, along with their families and friends, and donors from the Pittsburgh area and all over the country came together to raise over $70,000 total to send this team and supplies to Ndola. And all this was done, by God’s grace, in about three months.
For those of you who were involved in any part of making this trip possible, we returned from Zambia on Friday, July 17, after nine days in the country. Our team was able to complete the construction of walls for four classrooms, and some offices and storage space, which will, God willing, enable Lighthouse Christian School to keep their current students through the third grade, and beyond that as the school continues to be built.
We want to take this opportunity to thank you for being a part of that. Thank you for your support – whether in prayer, through donations, by encouragement. It has made a lasting impact for the lives of dozens and dozens of children in Ndola. God blessed our team with a joyful spirit that encouraged not only our team members, but also the people we were working with.
For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God…Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!
2 Corinthians 9:12, 15
On Sunday July 26, Providence Church hosted a “Zambia Sunday” to share about God’s grace and all that He was doing during the trip. There were several testimonies and stories shared and a selection of pictures that captured the team’s work, the ministry of Lighthouse Christians School and other sights in Ndola. We are excited to be able to provide these online. We are still working on making the pictures available. Check back soon!
