Why Care Groups?

“We should not think of our fellowship with other Christians as a spiritual luxury, an optional addition to the exercises of private devotions… It [is] vital to a Christian’s spiritual health, and central to the Church’s true life… The Church will flourish and Christians will be strong only when there is fellowship.” J. I. Packer

Fellowship: A Lifestyle

The Bible tells us the lifestyle of the early church was characterized by a devotion to apostolic instruction, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. This took place in the church and from house to house (Acts 2:42-47). Both settings are essential for the growth, maturity, and care of every disciple of Jesus Christ.

Purpose of Care Groups

At Providence Church, Care Groups are small group meetings that provide the context for members to meet from house to house. The basic objectives for Care Group meetings are:

  • Application of God’s Word
  • Building Biblical relationships and experiencing fellowship
  • Mutual care
  • Ministry of the Holy Spirit
  • Evangelistic outreach

“They devoted themselves to the apostle’s teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42-47
